Description

Kalanchoe fedtschenkoi f. marginata (now known as Bryophyllum fedteschenkoi): a succulent subshrub with a fun, unusual look. Its scalloped-edge leaves have a blue-green base with variegation of cream and hot pink. It is also known as "Variegated Lavender Scallops". This plant thrives outdoors in part sun or indoors near a sunny window. This Kalanchoe is native to Madagascar where it is a prolific grower and can reach up to 20" tall. When it gets tall, it will bend to touch the soil where it can grow new roots. It can also occasionally produce new plantlets along its leaf edges. The flowers on this variety are quite stunning, particularly in large groups. Numerous coral, tubular blooms hang like bells and attract pollinators. Blooming often takes place in winter for this variety. Soft succulents will not survive a hard frost, but if there is a risk of freezing temperatures they can be brought indoors to grow on a sunny window sill or under a grow light. They need ample sunlight, great drainage, and infrequent water to prevent rot. Pick containers with drainage holes and use well-draining cactus and succulent soil with 50% to 70% mineral grit such as coarse sand, pumice, or perlite. Water deeply enough for water to run out the drainage hole, then wait for the soil to fully dry before watering again.

Water Saving Tip:

Fix leaking sprinklers, valves, and pipes.

One broken spray sprinkler can waste 10 gallons per minute - or 100 gallons in a typical 10 minute watering cycle.
