Botanical name:Punica granatum

A dense growing shrub, the Pomegranate produces showy, orange red flowers that are followed by 2" diameter decorative fruit. Its apple green leaves are about 1" long and 1/2" wide. (The fruit is not edible.)

Tasmanian Flax Lily

Common name:Tasmanian Flax Lily
Botanical name:Dianella tasmanica

A grass-like plant with rather broad folaige to 30" tall , the Dianella tasmanica exhibits spikes of light blue flowers and dark, metallic blue berries in summer and fall. The plant should receive sun to part shade, with little or no summer watering when established. This is an excellent choice for very dry shade gardens. Its leaves can be used as an accompaniment for cut flowers.

Strawberry Madrone

Common name:Strawberry Madrone
Botanical name:Arbutus 'Marina'

The 'Marina' has gorgeous bark, with leaves that are smaller and not as glossy as Pacific Madrone. Its flowers are pink, borne in pendant clusters in the summer. The fruit is large, red and quite ornamental. The plant should be grown in sun to part shade, with little or no summer watering when established. The 'Marina' prefers good drainage. -Monterey Bay Nursery

Sundowner Flax

Common name:Sundowner Flax
Botanical name:Phormium 'Sundowner'

The 'Sundowner', which grows to 6'-7', bears light bronze leaves with rosy salmon, pink margins and streaks. -Monterey Bay Nursery
